Astana Park is an integrated master plan of 185 ha as an extension of the city of Astana Yessil District. The mixed use development includes commercial, hospitality and leisure. It has been designed taking into account the surrounding infrastructure and the extreme local climate.
The first project decision was to protect the natural ecosystem, creating a reserve that divides the plot. To improve the quality of the new areas, plantations of trees will be added around the site, strategically, to soften the strong winds. To reduce the architecture impact into the environment density has been created around the new roads with buildings that emerge from the ground like natural landscapes.
The new infrastructure is placed having the minimum impact into the existing environment by creating a podium that includes the traffic and parking while improving the project resiliency to potential water level increase. Wind and photovoltaic energy systems are integrated into the new landscape and infrastructure while creating new spaces to be used.
The whole master plan takes into consideration the extreme weather of Astana that ranges from -40 degrees in the winter to +40 in the summer creating programs and activities for both seasons. Therefore, buildings’ roofs are an extension of the park when it is warm and become a large ski resort in winter or summertime water and sports areas are for skating when it is cold.
